We now accept submissions from writers living anywhere in the United States.
Entries will be accepted in the following genres: fiction, creative non-fiction (essays and memoirs), CYA (children/young adult) literature, poetry, and plays.
Previously published works and simultaneous submissions not accepted.
Prose entries may contain up to 3,000 words. Poems are not limited as to number of lines but should have a maximum line of 65 characters. Full-length plays or screenplays may be submitted; the editor will select excerpts of up to 3000 words. Script excerpts or scenes are not acceptable submissions.
Manuscripts received prior to January 1, 2007, or postmarked after February 28, 2007 will not be considered for publication.
Please include with your entry:
A reader's fee of $10 per author (not per entry); a self-addressed, stamped #10 envelope; a cover sheet (see below) for each prose entry or group of poems; in addition to hard copy, you may also send the entry or entries and cover sheet(s) on a 3. 5" floppy disk or a CD (formatted for PC not Mac); text must be saved in ASCII DOS or RTF format, and disk must be labeled with the author's name and title(s) of work(s).
Disks and hard copy will not be returned.
All submissions must be in a 12-point font, double-spaced.
Pages must be numbered and titled, unstapled without the author's name. For each prose entry or set of poems prepare a separate cover sheet giving the following information: 1. the author's name, address, phone number and email if any. 2. the title (s) of the work (s) 3. the genre - especially important in the case of the prose entries 4. the approximate word count. 5. the author's bio, 70 words or less.
Mail materials to: The Berkshire Writers Room, Attn: Managing Editor, 1350 West Street, Pittsfield, MA, 01201. E-mail submissions will not be accepted. Authors will be notified sometime after July 2007 whether or not their work has been accepted for publication.
Receipt of the entries themselves will not be acknowledged.
Authors whose work is accepted will receive two copies of Volume 15 of The Berkshire Review upon publication. and will be eligible to purchase additional copies at a substantial discount.
